Crochet Sunflower

 


Materials used:
• Monaco 4ply acrylic yarn (in Yellow, Brown and Green)
  ** One 15grams skein of each color can make
        Yellow - petals for 3 flowers
        Brown - 6 center piece
        Green-  5 back piece and 4 leaves
• 3.5mm crochet hook (for the flower) 
• 2.5mm crochet hook (for the leaf)
• Wooden skewers (for the stem)
• Twist tie (to stabilize leaf)
• Fiber fill for stuffing

Tools:
• Scissors/ yarn cutter
• Pliers
• Glue gun and hot glue sticks

This pattern is written in US Terminology.

Abbreviations:

Ch - chain

Sc - single croche

Dc - double crochet

Tr - treble crochet / triple crochet


Special stitch:

Picot - Chain 2, insert hook in the second chain from hook (creating two loops on hook), yarn over and draw the yarn through the loops on the hook.


Finished item size: Flower is 5inches wide and stands 11inches tall.


••Pattern start••

Note: Pieces are done in continuous round, without join at the end of every round.

Leaf

Round 1: Ch 10, Sc in 2nd  chain from hook, 1Hdc, 1Dc, 3Tr, 1Dc, 1Hdc, 3Sc in last chain, Work on the other side of the chain, 1Hdc, 1Dc, 3Tr, 1Dc, 1Hdc, 2sc 

  ** Place twist wire over the stitches of the previouse row. Incorporate it by working the stitches of next round over it.

Round 2: 2sc in next st, Sc in next 8stiches, (Sc,Hdc,Sc) in next stitch, Sc in next 8stitches, slip stitch in next. 

Finish off and weave in to hide yarn tail.

 

To attach the leaf, wrap the protruding twist tie to the skewer on your desired position.

Wrap the skewer with green yarn leaving an inch space on top end, for later attachment to the flower.


Green (back of the flower)

Round 1: 6 Sc in magic ring

Round 2: Inc in each stitch around (12 sc)

Round 3: ( 1 Sc, Inc ) repeat around (18 sc)

Round 4: ( 2 Sc, Inc ) repeat around (24 sc)

Round 5: ( 3 Sc, Inc ) repeat around (30 sc)

Finish off.

Insert skewer between round 4 and 5.



**Use hot glue stick to secure the skewer in place.

Brown (center of the flower)

Round 1: 6 Sc in magic ring

Round 2: Inc in each stitch around (12 sc)

Round 3: ( 1 Sc, Inc ) repeat around (18 sc)

Round 4: ( 2 Sc, Inc ) repeat around (24 sc)

Round 5: ( 3 Sc, Inc ) repeat around (30 sc)

Round 6: Sc in each stitch around (30 sc)

Slip stitch in next stitch, do not finish off, cut yarn with extra tail.


 

To combine back and center piece, place the Brown piece on top of the green with both wrong sides facing together.



Petals:

With the hook still in the last loop of brown piece:



** Insert hook on both loops of the next stitch and backloop of the aligned stitch on the green part, grab the yellow yarn and draw through the 4 loops on the hook,creating a slip stitch.


 Round 7: Chain 1, Sc in next 2 stitches, *(chain 6, slipstitch to the stitch where the chain is (1 chain loop made)

Sc in next 3 stitches )* , repeat the process from *( up to )*  to create a total of 10 chain loops.


Round 8: slipstitch in next 2 Sc of previous round, *( 5 Dc, Picot, 5 Dc inside the chain loop, skip Sc, slip stitch in next )*, 

skip Sc, repeat the process from *( up to )*  to create 10 petals.

Finish off and hide yarn tail.
