Animal Buddy Rocky Raccoon



Rocky is the new addition to my animal buddy series. He is made from a modified  Ned Bear's pattern.
 I am using local yarn to make my prototype amigurumi for this pattern. It is made of four strands of fine acrylic yarn we call Indophil named after its  manufacturing company.

Materials used:
- Indophil 4 ply Grey, Black, Off White (can be substitute with any sock weight yarn)
- 2.25 mm Crochet hook
- Safety eyes 8mm Brown
- Fiber fill for stuffing

This pattern is written in US Terminology.
Abbreviation:
Ch- Chain
Sc- Single Crochet
Inc- Increace
Dec- Decrease
Hdc- Half Double Crochet

Pattern Start:

EARS: Make two.
Crocheted in continuous round.Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.
With Grey yarn.
Round 1: 6 Sc in magic ring
If you're not familiar with magic ring, you can do Chain 2,6 Sc in 2nd chain from hook.
Round 2: (Sc in next st, Inc in next) x3 (9)
Round 3: (Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next) x3 (12)
Round 4: (Sc in next 3 sts, Inc in next) x3 (15)
Round 5-7: Sc in each st around (15)
Finish off, cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing ears to the head.
Use Black yarn to embroider details of the ears.


SNOUT
Crocheted with join at the end of every round. Use contrasting color for the snout.
Round 1: 6 Sc in magic ring, Join (6)
Round 2: Inc in each st around, Join (12)
Round 3: (Sc in next st, Inc in next) repeat around, Join (18)
Round 4: (Sc in next 5 sts, Inc in next st) repeat around, Join (21)
Round 5: Sc in each stitch around
Finish off and leave long tail for sewing later. Using BLACK yarn, embroider nose.


ARMS: Make two.
Crocheted in continuous round.Use a stitch marker to mark the beginning of the round.Stuff the arms as you go.
Start with Black yarn
Round 1: 6 Sc in magic ring.
If you're not familiar with magic ring, you can do Chain 2,6 Sc in 2nd chain from hook.
Round 2: Inc in each st around (12)
Round 3: (Sc in next 3 sts, Inc in next st) repeat around (15)
Round 4: Sc in each st around (15)
Round 5: Sc in next 3sts, Dec, Sc, Bobble stitch in next, Sc, Dec, Sc in next 3 sts, Dec (12)
Round 6: Sc in next 2 sts, Dec, Sc in next 4 sts, Dec,  Sc in next 2 sts (10)
Before finishing that last stitch, grab Grey yarn with your crochet hook.
Round 7: Slip stitch in each stitch around working in back loops only (10)
Round 8: Sc in each st around working in back loops only (10)
Round 9-20: Sc in each st around (10)
Round 21: (Sc in next 3 sts,Dec) x2 (8)
Finish off. Arms are made ahead for later attachment using the  crochet as you go method.
If you're not familiar with the method, after finishing off the arm,cut the yarn leaving long tail for sewing. 

Tummy patch: 
Round 1: Ch 8, Inc in 2nd chain from hook, Sc in next 5 sts, 4 Sc in next st, Work on the other side of chain, Sc in next 5 sts, Inc in next st. (18)
Round 2: Inc in next 2 sts, Sc in next 5 sts, Inc in next 4 sts, Inc in next 2 sts. (26)
Round 3:  (Sc, Inc in next st) x2, Sc in next 5 sts, (Sc, Inc in next st) x4, Sc in next 5 sts,  (Sc, Inc in next st) x2. (34)
Finish off, and weave in yarn end.

Eye patch: Make two
Round 1: Chain 10, Sc in each st across (9)
Round 2: Ch 1 turn, Sc in each st across (9)
Round 3: Ch 1 turn, Dec, Sc in next 7 sts (8)
Round  4: Ch 1 turn, Sc in each st across (8)
Round 5: Ch 1 turn, Dec, Sc in next 6 sts (7)
Round 6: Ch 1 turn, Sc in each st across (7)
Finish off, weave in yarn end.
With white yarn.
Slip stitch on the decreasing side of the patch, and work sc in slip stitches.
***Insert safety eye after 3rd Sc between round 3 and 4.




Tail:
With Black yarn.
Round 1: 6Sc in magic ring
Round 2: Sc in each st around
Round 3: (Sc, Inc in next st) x3 (9)
Round 4: (Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next st) x3 (12)
Round 5: (Sc in next 3 sts, Inc in next st) x3 (15)
Round 6: (Sc in next 4 sts, Inc in next st) x3 (18)
Round 7: Sc in each st around
Round 8: Change to White yarn. Sc 18
Round 9: Change to Grey yarn. Sc 18
Round 10: Change to Black yarn. Sc 18
Round 8: Change to White yarn. Sc 18
Round 9: Change to Grey yarn. Sc 18
Round 10: Sc in each st around (10)
Round 11: (Sc in next 7sts, Dec) x2 (16)
Round 12: (Sc in next 6sts, Dec) x2 (14)
Round 13: Sc 14
Round 14: (Sc in next 5sts, Dec) x2 (12)
Round 15-16: Sc 12
Finish off, cut yarn leaving long tail for sewing the tail later on to back of the body.

LEG 1:
Round 1: Ch 5, Sc in 2nd chain from hook and next 2 sts, 3 Sc in next st, on the other side of chain, Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next st (10)
Round 2: Inc in next st, Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next st, 3 Sc in next st, Inc in next st, Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next st, 3 Sc in next sts (18)
Round 3: Sc in next st, Inc in next st, Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next st, (* Sc in next st, Inc in next st) x3, Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next st, (* Sc in next st, Inc in next st) x2 (26)
Round 4: Sc in each st around working in back loops only.(26)
Round 5: Sc in each st around (both loops) (26)
Stuff the leg as you go.
Round 6: Sc in next 6 sts, HdcDec x4, Sc in next 12 sts (22)
Round 7: Sc in next 4 sts, ScDec x4, Sc in next 10 sts (18)
Round 8: Sc in each st around (18)
Before finishing that last stitch, grab Grey yarn with your crochet hook.
Round 9: Slip stitch in each st around working in Back loops only.
Round 10:  Sc in each st around working in back loops only (18)
Round 11-13: Sc in each st around (18)
Finish off. place stitch marker in 12th st.

LEG 2: Follow instruction for round 1-13 for the first leg DO NOT finish off.
To join both legs with 2nd leg on hook,Continue working Sc in next 4 sts, Ch 3, Slip stitch where you place stitch marker in 1st leg.

** If the 12th stitch of your first leg is not centered,you can move your slip stitch. It will not affect the number of stitches needed to make the following round.
Placing both legs together facing you will make it easier to find the aligned stitches in the center of the legs.

Start crocheting the BODY.
Round 43: Ch 1, Sc around 1st leg , Sc along Ch 3, Sc around 2nd leg, Sc along Ch 3 (42) 
- Do not join, continue to work in continuous spiral.
Round 15: (Sc in next 6 sts, Inc in next st) repeat around (48)
Round 16: (Sc in next 7 sts, Inc in next st) repeat around (54)
Round 17-23: Sc in each st around (54)
Round 24: (Sc in next 7 sts, Dec) repeat around (48)
Round 25-26: Sc in each st around (48)
Round 27: (Sc in next 6 sts, Dec) repeat around (42)
Round 28-29: Sc in each st around (42)
Round 30: (Sc in next 5 sts, Dec) repeat around (36)
Round 31-32: Sc in each st around (36)
Round 33: (Sc in next 4 sts, Dec) repeat around (30)
Round 34: Sc in each st around,  Joining the arms as you go. (30)
Round 35: Sc in each st around (30)

HEAD

Round 38: (Sc in next 2 sts, Inc in next st) repeat around (32)

Round 41: (Sc in next 6 sts, Inc in next st) repeat around (56)

Round 43-51: Sc in each st around (60sts, 9 rounds)

You might want to sew the eye patches and snout before proceeding to closing the head.

Round 54: (Sc in next 7 sts,Dec) repeat around (48)

Cut yarn leaving long tail. Using yarn needle, thread through each stitch and pull tight to close the head.
